The Idea

The idea for a new FELDO product first appears in a handmade sketch done on a drawing table. This drawing or design sketch is the first creation of the product which is designed on a paper.

Project development

After de first drawing this is exported to a CAD software with the measurements and dimensions of the future product.

When the project is finished, a 3D visual model is generated and the prototype is manufactured on that basis. In this way, we have the first real model of the timepiece to check out the product and start the manufacturing of the product itself.

The test phase

At this stage, our timepieces are heavily tested to arrive to the market without any failure in the product. At this stage, production costs are also calculated.

When the product has been tested, and it has sucessful passed all the tests as well as all the production costs have been calculated, the manufacturing process starts.

A very special service:

FELDO timepieces are subjected to strict measures of control as far as quality and functionality are concerned. These timepieces will be with you for many years as an impeccable functional piece of jewelry. 

If, by chance, a defect appears, you can resort to FELDO's special service by returning to the place where it was purchased or by contacting FELDO directly. 

- They would be responsible for sending the timepiece back for repair and for returning it to you once it has been fixed.

- Without any additional cost and anywhere in the world. 

Naturally, during the period of guarantee, the repair would take place without any additional cost to you. Outside that period, and depending on the defect, you would receive a repair cost estimate. The special service of collecting and returning the timepiece, would still be without cost to you outside of the period of guarantee. Therefore there is nothing to worry about.

During the Prehistory man measured time. Our ancestors built stone colums so that when a start concurred the alignment of these columns, it indicated an important moment or date. Ancient egipcian pillars were elements whose shadow moved with the passing of the day and indicated the hours between dawn and sunset. The next step in the measuring of time was the creation of background timepieces which did not depend on stars to operate by themselves. Babylonian, egipcian, chinese and indian used a vessel of water, having a small hole in the bottom, so that the liquid dripped out drop by drop. As the level within the jar was lowered, it showed the time upon a scale and indicated the hours. Another kind of timepiece was the the sand-glass or hourglass which appeared approximately 500 years ago. Fine sand poured through a tiny hole from an upper into a lower compartment. When one of the funnel-shaped bowls had emptied itself--then waited with entire unconcern until some one stood it upon its head and caused the sand to run backagain. Another method used to measure time consisted on measuring time while a substance was consumed or burnt. The most famous of these timepieces type was the one formed by a graduated candle, however rope with knots and oil lamps with graduated depot were also commonly used. Mechanical timepieces with clock hands which slowly were moved by the action of gears firstly appeared some centurias ago. There is still available in Paris a clock created in 1364 to Charles V. In these primitive timepieces the movement was originated by means of a hanging weight which boosted a gear wheel whose teeth were placed perpendicular to its diameter. Two laminations called “pumps”, placed on a horizontal axis which oscillated, engaged the previously mentioned gear wheel teeth and regulated its movement. This was the first system used for timepieces as well as the weight was the first driving system. We also need to talk about the third essential system of a timepiece which is the oscillator in charge of the escape movements. In the primitive timepiece we are dealing with, this funtion was carried out by a jemmy fixed to the end of the escape axis (the one with the two laminations) which oscillated by the impulse produced by the teeth of the gear wheel. The oscillation duration was regulated by means of a slide weight fixed to the jemmy. These timepieces were sometimes innacurate due to their original mechanisms: escape and oscillation.
 

Our civilization has been always trying to measure time fractions as a registration of a constant activity or as a silent calm. Since our origins, humans have been trying to measure time to organize their lives and destination. Ancient civilizations measure time according to the alternation between day and night, as well as Moon cicles. Little by little our ancenstros created instrument to divide time by shadows with increasing accuracy. Clocks were starting to operate. At first Sundials told the time thanks to the Sun movement on a flat surface with a clock type indicator. Arqueologists have discovered that Chinese used timepieces 3.000 years before Christ as well as Egypcians and Incas do. These first timepieces do not work during the night or in cloudy days or even in twilight or dawn. Also clock type indicators should be modified depending of the earth latitudes when the sun beams inclination was different. This was not a very secure way of measuring time owing to day duration was different period of the year. Clepsydras appeared at that time in Babylon ad Egypt first and later in Greece and Rome, they were a kind of a vessel of water, having a small hole in the bottom, so that the liquid dripped out drop by drope. A similar system but with marked candles was using during the night. In the III century BC, sand timepieces appeared with two vessels connected by a narrow tube. In the past sand timepieces were bigger and could measure the time of one day. Anyway time passed until the machines started to be important in society. At the very begining of the VIII century the italian Pacífico created one timepiece which worked by means of counterweights and was given to the king Pepin the short by the Pope Paulo I. These were the first steps. In 1.300 these mechanisms were very common in some European churches. The oldest clock is in the Cathedral of Salisbury,England which was installed in 1386. These kind of timepieces became more efficient with the discovering of the Pendulum Law created by Galileo Galilei 1600. Thanks to this discovering, the Duch mathematician and phisycist Christiaan Huygens would create the first timepiece with pendulum in 1657 in a wall clock. Some time later, one hundred years before, in the German city of Nüremberg the first wound clocks were created, these timepieces were portable ones. Ginebra was very famous as timepiece-making center. The Calvinistic legislation in this city prevented the manufacturing of “crosses, chalices and other religious instruments”, so these craftsmen lost their French and natives of Savoy customers. So, they decided to create boxes for timepieces mechanism, working with timepiece-makers. At the beginning of the XVII century, the timepiece-making in Geneve was very important and it went beyond the frontiers to make exhibitions in Lyon and Francfort fairs. The advance in timepiece-making had been very important but it was necessary to solve problems such as pices wear and inaccuracy in time measurement. Nicolas Faccio could modify this aspect in 1704. He used rubies and aspires as pivots in the timepieces mechanism. This pieces harshness reduced the mistakes due to friction and wear. This meant an important improvement in the timepiece-making industry. Nowadays, we have a wide range of timepieces types and qualities: electrical, timers, alarm clocks, wrist timepieces, digital, atomic, etc.. Wrist timepieces were created in 1904 by the Suitzerland timepiecemaker Hans Wildsorf from Rolex.: Only six years later they created the first wrist timer. Atomic timepieces, started to be created in 1949 being one of the pacific application of the nuclear energy. Finally, we want to remark that the use of quartz in timepieces started in Beil Laboratories, from 1980 with a clock type indicador where the time could be seen through a display to see the time just with a look. From that moment a long way has been walked.
 

Quartz timepieces

A quartz timepiece uses an electronic oscillator that is regulated by a quartz crystal to keep time. This crystal oscillator creates a signal with very precise frequency, so that quartz clocks are at least an order of magnitude more accurate than good mechanical clocks.

Time

The measurement of time is so critical to the functioning of modern societies that it is coordinated at an international level. The basis for scientific time is a continuous count of seconds based on atomic clocks around the world, known as the International Atomic Time (TAI). This is the yardstick for other time scales, including Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), which is the basis for civil time. 

Time keeping

This indicates the general accuracy of a timepiece and can be determined over 24 hour periods at how well it keep time.  All types of timepieces and timepiece movements have different time keeping abilities according to the technology being used. 

Tourbillon (or whirlwind)

A Tourbillon is a timepiece in which the entire escapement assembly rotates.
